Abstract:

With the growing concern over domestic fire accidents—especially in kitchens due to unattended cooking—this project introduces a Smart Kitchen Fire Detection and Alert System using thermal imaging and computer vision. The system integrates the MLX90640 thermal infrared sensor to detect abnormal temperature rise indicating a potential fire and combines it with human presence detection using MobileNet SSD. When a high-temperature region is detected in the kitchen without any human presence nearby, the system sends real-time push notifications via Gotify to alert users. Built using OpenCV, PyQt5, and hosted on Raspberry Pi, this intelligent solution offers a low-cost, efficient approach to enhance kitchen safety and prevent fire hazards.
